Bring your paints and your ideas to share or demonstrate….let’s get our Holiday projects started!!! ******************************************* President’s Message: Hi Ladies, The fair was great! I worked the last day with Kiyomi and enjoyed the display. CONGRATULATIONS TO CAROLE LOVE FOR BEST OF SHOW!!! I went to the Calif. China Painters Art Assoc. (CCPAA) annual Show in Fullerton on October 22 for a CAPA board meeting at 7 am. I got a turn table from Kay Knapp and got to see Nancy Benedetti. Jean Harper introduced me to Hong Beaven, the President of CCPAA and an Orange County member in CAPA. She was interested in starting a school in California too and said she has heard from other people that want one too and will jump at the chance to participate in one. Judy Buchholz and I went to the CAPA board meeting and they discussed scholarships available to help CAPA members take art classes in college in order to become teachers or improve teachers’ art knowledge of colors, etc. I reported that we have not found a location for the 2013 convention yet. Wendy Niles at Radisson said "After reviewing meeting space and guest rooms we are unable to accommodate your request at this time we do not have enough banquet space or sleeping rooms." Arleen Roberts at University Square Hotel (formerly Piccadilly) said "I cannot book my ballroom for less than 200 dinners on Saturday." The CAPA Board does not want a hotel but a Masonic Lodge, school auditorium or other meeting space and have the banquet catered and leave the hotel rooms up to each person to handle. They would like the rooms close by is all. I sent an email to Wonder Valley for a quote and have three other places to check out. If you think of someplace like the vacate school Sandy mentioned; give me a name, phone number and email if possible so I can contact them. Let’s talk more at the meeting. --Betty Castro, President Big Fresno Fair Fun!!! CONGRATS to Carole Love for her Best of Show winning on "The Sisters" and on her First Place for "Wolf Pack" pastel in Fine Arts!! We had a nice display in the Home Arts Building this year with many of our members competing. Carmina Martinez also entered one of her fine silk lampshades and Michele Zulim entered Fine Arts with the Koi Pond Platter. Thank you to all of our ladies who volunteered to demonstrate during the many hours of the Fair!!! Once again, a HUGE SUCCESS!!! ######################################################################################## **** @@@@ !!!!!Upcoming BIRTHDAYS!!!! @@@@ **** November 7 Patti Duncan November 12 Mary McKinney November 21 Leslie Stauffer November 25 Jean Harper December 21 Renay Weiss December 24 Jeanette Byl December 24 Freddie Chrisman ***************************************************************** ***** News from our Members! ***** A Note From Jeanette Byl: Hi all, I was helping Dirk trim a tree, and a branch made me lose my balance, I fell backwards, and broke my left wrist, another bump in the road. I am grateful Dirk is ok, and it wasn't my right wrist. Charlotte King and Linda Taylor went to Sacramento to their clubs annual Tea Party. Linda had been before, but I hadn't. It was like a miniature CAPA Show. They served Tea and Coffee and finger foods all day and it was free. You could donate though if you wanted. Kaye Knapp was there with a big booth selling her supplies. They had some demo's going on also. They had Silent Auctions going on all day. They just put out a few things to bid on for about an hour and then they closed it and then put out some more pieces to auction. That was a nice way to do it. We had a lovely time. The other reason we went to Sacramento was the next day on Sunday we went to the Crocker Art Museum there to see an Exhibit of Franz Bischoff work. We just went bananas going over all the Vases and plates he painted around 1901 to 1907. They also had lots of his later work in Oil painting. These were mostly of CA scenery as he lived here then. We just can't describe how excited we got over his work. We did purchase a lovely book with pictures of all these pieces and his history, for our clubs Library. Come to the club meeting and take a look at it. Charlotte King %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% JUNE MANTER has supplies and a kiln for sale; please give her a call at 822-2073. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ From our Librarian Anne Fleming: Ladies, please check your stash and see if you happen to have one or more of our missing library books.
